For those of you who don't know what this picture shows this is a brief explanation. Being brief, the explanation will omit some of the detail, for the full detail consult a relevant scientific source. The picture shows seven chromosomes: two each from a Chimpanzee (Pan), Gorilla (Gorilla) and Orangutan (Pongo) together with one chromosome from a Human (Homo), our chromosome two. The structure of each chromosome is indicated by the light and dark bands. Notice how the pattern of the bands is a good match across all four species, even in humans who only have one chromosome matching the pattern on the two chromosomes in the other species. What this picture illustrates is that one human chromosome is due to a fusion between two chromosomes in one of our ancestors after our the split from the Chimpanzees' ancestors. Chimps, Gorillas and Orangutans all have the original two chromosomes, while we have the fused single chromosome.

That fusion likely caused a 50% chance of a developmental failure in crossbreeds, thus tending to make the separation of the species beneficial.

No. Sexual reproduction reduces by 50%, depending on how the two chromosomes from one side match up with the double chromosome from the other side.

You might want to learn about fertility of ligers and tigons, the crossbreeds of lions and tigers. Only 50% of them are fertile.

by generation and generation.
So are we going from 46 to 48 or the other was according to evolution.
Later you can explain the over 100 million DNA changes.

Through sexual reproduction. Which allows mutations which are not harmful to persist and spread.

That's right. Every generation the gene pool of the total population changes, as less fit individuals die without reproducing, while the most fit produce more progeny. It's very simple.

Chimps have 48 chromosomes and mankind 46.

Supposedly they are descended from a common ancestor.

But how could this have happened through evolution given sexual reproduction?

Just show how this plays out for 20 generations of offspring.
Start with 48 chromosomes.
A primate with 48 by some weird event has an offspring with 46 .
The offspring then mates with another primate of the same species which of course has all 48.
Now each donates 1/2 and then what?
How many chromosomes from each parent does the first offspring have?
24 from each or 24 from one and 23 from the other?
How could that offspring even survive?
How did it ever have an offspring?
Who did the first offspring mate with if it is not another primate with 48 chromosomes?
How could 2 chromosomes fuse if their ends are protected?
Keep going until 20 generations.

And do not forget the over 100 million differences in the DNA between chimps and people.

And of course, there can be no common descent if the chromosome counts are different for any proposed species pairs.
I have proved that macro evolution is a lie.
