"Suzume " is disappointing

Makoto Shinkai's latest film, "Suzume", just opened in the US yesterday, and being a fan of Shinkai ever since his 2016 film "Your Name", I had to go see it on the big screen. I had high hopes because the critics reviews were at 96% and the audience score was at 99%. I did enjoy watching it, but just barely. It had character interactions that the plot did not earn, and one of main characters spends most of film as a chair. The visuals are stunning, but the plot just didn't impress me. And the music, which played such a big part in his previous two films, was completely underwhelming. If you want to see a really good Japanese anime film from this director, just watch "Your Name", or even Mamoru Hosoda's "Belle" from two years ago. Or just about any classic Studio Ghibli film. But this one you can skip.
