I once heard a Catholic priest say.....

Coming from the same people who call the Word of God "dead."
CCC 131 "And such is the force and power of the Word of God that it can serve the Church as her support and vigor, and the children of the Church as strength for their faith, food for the soul, and a pure and lasting fount of spiritual life." Hence "access to Sacred Scripture ought to be open wide to the Christian faithful."

132 "Therefore, the study of the sacred page should be the very soul of sacred theology. The ministry of the Word, too - pastoral preaching, catechetics and all forms of Christian instruction, among which the liturgical homily should hold pride of place - is healthily nourished and thrives in holiness through the Word of Scripture."

133 The Church "forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful. . . to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.

You would figure that after throwing around all those platitudes and employing such glowing lip service you Catholics would have more respect for the Word of God than to call it "dead."

Indeed!!! Our new pact -- NO MORE traditions of men from the 16th century ?? ?
Or any other century...

No more apocryphal writings; no more extra-biblical teachings (e.g. the "assumption of Mary"); no more superstitions (e.g. veneration of relics); no more idolatry (e.g. worshipping a wafer in a monstrance); no more "holy water"; no more mediatorial priesthood and no more "mediatrix"(we have One Mediator); no more "Holy Father" (we have one Holy Father, and He is God), etc., etc..

hear hear.... unless they have legitimately had hands laid on them through succession

yep, thank God for the deuterocanonical writings ?

except for 'whatever you bind... ', etc.

That was easy!
Having hands laid on you, does not confer the ability to proclaim sound, extra-biblical doctrine!

The apocryphal writings are not "deuterocanonical". There is only the one, primary canon; there is no alleged secondary canon (whatever that is supposed to mean).

Books like Tobit are rubbish; then there is the book called "Ecclesiasticus", which is a kind of third-rate book of proverbs; then there is the extremely dubious book called "2 Maccabees" (1 Maccabees is at least reasonably accurate history, although not inspired).

I fail to see how anyone with any discernment could read the Apocrypha and not realise that it is uninspired.

Whatever a born again child of God binds on Earth, will have been bound in heaven. What is your point?

That's funny because that is what just about every cult apologist I speak to says about all their extra biblical, late arriving, novel doctrines.
That is amazing!!! That is what just about every protester I speak to says about their fallible, personal interpretations of scripture..... what a small world it is! WOW!!!

The RC Masters have taught Catholics that that verse gives them a blank check to teach whatever new doctrine they think up....as long as they say it is from God.

LOL.
It's certainly very convenient for them; in fact, that passage is not even about doctrine.

and protected by the Holy Spirit!
We are commanded to test all things. We are also told that God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We must, therefore, test the teachings of, e.g., the so-called Magisterium, against the Bible. If they differ, or if the Magisterium pronounces teachings not found in the Bible, then those teachings must be discarded.

This was one of the pillars of that great, God-given deliverance from darkness known as "The Reformation": a return to the word of God and a departure from the traditions and superstitions of men. This, along with justification by faith in Jesus Christ, instead of absolution supposedly being doled out by sinful priests, is absolutely vital. Of course, many other things are also vital; but, lacking the unchanging, objective standard of the Holy Bible, against which to test all things, and lacking justification by faith in Jesus Christ alone, marks out Roman Catholicism as a false religion, not Christianity.

The pillar of truth is available.... if you personally 'test all things' with your personal, fallible, interpretations of scripture [protestant glasses], you become a mini-pope

fake news.... not found in the bible? where do you get these new notions?

Really? Calvin? Luther? Zwingli? -- all you did was deny Christ's Church for MEN!!!
