Romans 7
Many use chapter 7 in Romans to state the Law of God is done away with.
First, nowhere does scripture state the law has been done away with at all times in all circumstances for all Christians. Romans chapter 7 never says any such thing. Verses found elsewhere in Romans clearly imply the law was relevant to Paul's discourse of Romans in its entirety. PAUL REPEATEDLY APPLIED THE LAW TO HIS READERS THROUGHOUT HIS EPISTLES!!!!!!! and he did so to BOTH Jewish and Gentile converts.
He did not do so asserting the law as a means of obtaining righteousness of justification, though.
That takes care of the first part of this op.
And to prove that we will always sin because we can’t help ourselves.
If that statement or this opening post is intended to imply a person may become ontologically sinless and perfect on this of the grave, then you're the one in the wrong here. Let me encourage you to clarify your position and intent here because it is sinless perfectionism that is the false teaching.
Both these statements are a lie. Please follow along.
Well....... there are such things as 1) "honest mistakes," or unintended factual errors, 2) false teachings, or those positions based on factual errors but wherein no deceit is intended, and 3) lies, or the asserting of factual errors known to be factual errors and asserted falsely with an intention to deceive. In other words, there is a difference between a falsehood and a lie. A lie necessarily entails a knowing and willful intent to deceive.
You should know before this thread gets to long the
CARM forum rules, or terms of use prohibit the use of personal attacks claiming people are lying. The rule does "
permits referring to a group/cult/religion as teaching lies," so make sure posts are posted accordingly. I will report any poster and his/her posts that violate Rule 12.8.
To my knowledge none of the forum members currently in this thread willfully intend to deceive you or anyone else. Myself included. I, personally, have engaged this matter of sinless perfectionism before and it is always the advocate of sinless perfectionism failing to acknowledge the whole of scripture, the ones shown to use scripture selectively AND in a manner inconsistent with the precedent or examples of the prophets and apostles themselves.
The fact is both Peter and Paul sinned after having been regenerate and receiving salvation from sin and wrath. Peter behaved hypocritically with the Jewish and Gentile converts, and Paul plainly stated he could see the law of sin and death at work in his being.
Romans 7:21-24
I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am!
Those statements are stated in the present tense, not past-tense.
Decades after having been saved Paul plainly stated evil was still present in him and he was a wretched man. It is only through resurrection that we are made perfect, incorruptible and immortal.
1 Corinthians 15:42-54
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly. Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory."
1 Peter 1:3-5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Perfection, imperishability/incorruptibility, and immortality are our inheritance, and they await us on the other side of the grave, not here on earth in what remains of corruptible flesh and blood. Every single verse you will cite in support of your op will have to reconcile with these vereses and those defining sin as something more or other than lawlessness.
I will address the rest of the op later as I have time and inclination.
