Setting Argumentive Things Aside

Do you think that the differences between Roman Catholics and Evangelicals can be set aside?
Rather than tack on to the end of most recent discussion in this thread, I am going to go all the way back to the OP and try to answer it.

The question about setting aside differences depends very much on the context in which Catholics and Evangelicals find themselves. When members of both groups work at the same meat packing plant, they can set their differences aside while working together and when socializing at work. Same goes for serving in the Coast Guard, a national Olympic team, a symphony orchestra, and a book club and many others. Just because they can set their differences aside in these contexts does not mean they will. But the question was only about what they can do. The only times I can think of when differences cannot be set aside is the context where members of both groups need to be seen as in agreement on all their most core religious values. For example, if a non-Catholic wants to receive the Catholic Eucharist, but maintains a belief that it is not Christ in the form of bread, that difference cannot be set aside. Similarly, if a Catholic were applying for a position as a Sunday School teacher at an Evangelical church, the people in that church could not put aside the difference that the Catholic applicant would be teaching their children what they consider to be unbiblical and heterodox views. However even in those situations where differences cannot be totally ignored, people from both groups can live in friendship and and share those aspects of their faith that they do hold in common, even while they know they do not share the same faith in every respect. In fact it is quite common.

When it comes to salvation and who is sovereign, we absolutely can not have one foot in Christianity and one foot in roman catholicism. It does NOT work. No matter how many lies the rcc tells itself or others.

We can not live in this world without coming into contact with those who do not share our ideals. Nobody disagrees that politeness and common courtesy, and working for the common good for everybody, and is appreciated by all.

But this is NOT the same umbrella that the rcc wants everyone to come under. The rcc wants everyone to worship itself, as sovereign, instead of Jesus Christ. And this is very evident in the actions of the rcc.
